Temporary Part-Time – 2 months (June 1 – July)

Weekdays and Weekend Hours – Rate $20/hour; Hours 15 – 20/week

Work between the hours of 12 – 7 p.m.

The National Black Leadership Commission on Health (Black Health) has an immediate opening for Community Canvassers to support our Neighborhood COVID-19 Education Program in New York City. These are in-person outreach position that requires door-to-door interactions with community members as well supporting in-person events to elevate community understanding of COVID-19 impacts and a vaccine information.

We are looking for candidates who live in the Bronx. Work will be conducted outside, rain or shine. These positions will begin immediately. You will work in the borough where you live. Candidates will engage with the community on an individual level through door to door, public facing event interventions, and disseminating information to the public The Canvasser will be responsible for targeted community outreach to the residents of the 5 boroughs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach with people on the street, homes, and businesses to build strategic partnerships to increase vaccine dosages in the community.
  • Effectively engage community and provide accurate information on COVID-19 including prevention and testing/vaccine access.
  • Direct members of communities to testing and vaccines.
  • Protect and maintain privacy and confidentiality.
  • Collect appropriate information from community members and report on findings as appropriate.
  • Educate others on the use of personal protective equipment, like face coverings, to prevent possible COVID-19 transmission.

Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must live in the following zip codes 10456, 10457, 10466, 10467, 10469.
  • Knowledge of communities preferred.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Ability to interact with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress.
  • Ability to show empathy to distressed individuals.
  • Multiple languages a plus
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Able to stand and walk 4 – 6 hours.
