Black Health Issues a Call to Action for a COVID-19 Coalition

Syracuse Community Stakeholders Answer the Call to Assist Communities of Color

Syracuse, New York (April 30, 2020) – The National Black Leadership Commission on Health, Inc. (Black Health), a nonprofit organization that promotes health and prevention of diseases within the Black community, issued a Call to Action to community stakeholders in response to the disproportionate impact of  COVID-19 on the community. Requests were made for donations of mask, gloves, and hand sanitizer in an effort to reduce the risk of exposure to the coronavirus in the most vulnerable communities.

Today at 1 p.m. volunteers will distribute kits and encourage the community to reduce their risk by wearing mask, social distancing, washing their hands and avoiding large crowds. In addition, literature will be shared about COVID-19 and the Census at the following locations:

  • Southside: Centro Bus Hub, Jimmy’s Super Saver, S. Salina St and Wood Ave.
  • Northside: Lodi and Butternut, Save A Lot (Parking Lot), Dollar Tree Plaza
  • Westside: Geddes Plaza, Fitch St. and Dudley St.
  • Eastside: Parkside Commons, E. Fayette St. and Westmoreland Ave.

Across the nation, early data is showing that African Americans are disproportionately contracting and dying from the coronavirus. It is our goal to continue to collect donations to distribute in the community along with literature in an effort to reduce the risk. Interest in donating or volunteering for future events, please contact Denise Welch, dwelch@nblch.org. For photos of this event click here.
